Support us

Every day of every year Nurse Maude provides hospice palliative care, free of charge to patients and their families.

We provide nursing and homecare to some of the most vulnerable in our community. Every dollar goes into providing care for those who need us most.

We can’t do this without you. From them, and us, thank you.

How to donate clothes

Our hospice shops welcome donations of quality clothing and accessories. We aim to stock fashionable, high-end, and branded items that appeal to our customers.

  • Please ensure clothing is clean, in good condition, and free from stains or damage.
  • We cannot accept soiled, broken, or unsellable clothing.

All clothing donated is sold through our hospice shops, with every dollar raised going directly towards the cost of running our hospice and supporting patients and their families.

How to donate household goods

We gratefully accept selected household goods that are in good condition and suitable for resale.

  • Items should be high quality and in working order.
  • Due to changes in how we run our Trade Me sales, we now focus only on items of real value that can achieve a fair return for our charity.

Household goods may be sold in our hospice shops or, if appropriate, through Trade Me. Just like clothing donations, all proceeds help cover the significant cost of delivering hospice care in our community.

Unfortunately, we can't accept all items

Unfortunately, we cannot accept items that are:

  • Dirty, stained, or broken
  • Unsellable or unsafe (e.g., damaged appliances, heavily worn furniture)
  • Items without resale value

Disposing of unsuitable donations costs our charity around $80,000 each year—money we would much rather spend directly on care. By donating responsibly, you ensure your gift goes further in helping those who need us most.

Leave a Gift in Your Will

Planning for the future is one of the most powerful ways you can support Nurse Maude’s work for generations to come.

We’ve partnered with Gathered Here, a free and easy online will-writing service, so you can write your will in around 20 minutes, from the comfort of your home.

This service allows you to:

  • Create or update your will at no cost.
  • Provide for your loved ones with peace of mind.
  • If you wish, include a gift to Nurse Maude - a legacy that will help ensure compassionate hospice and community care is available to those who need it, long into the future.

Every gift, large or small, makes a lasting difference. By remembering Nurse Maude in your will, you are ensuring that the people of Canterbury and beyond continue to receive care, dignity, and support at life’s most vulnerable moments.
